James is a working philosopher, writer, and translator. He is trained in the traditions of 19th and 20th century European philosophy, predominately phenomenology and its various offspring (deconstruction, post-deconstructive naturalism) and deals at times with methodologies and interests associated with World Philosophy (non-Western, comparative). Much of the writing and teaching documented here is concerned with broad questions of nature, often guided by the question of place, locality, limit, horizon. The earliest work found here deals in the relationship between nature and technology and the limits of technical knowledge. This has since developed toward an interest in the social, sociality, and social practice, still oriented by questions of nature and locality.
James offers scholarly tutoring and curated experiences in philosophy. You can find more info at the Tutoring/Experience section of this website.
James is also co-founder and organizer of the Blue Ridge Philosophy Symposium, an annual undergraduate symposium.
