Tutoring

I offer private tutoring in the humanities with an emphasis on philosophy and the history of philosophy. Courses are individually tailored to the student’s interests and desired level of rigor and will run on 3-month intervals with the opportunity to re-evaluate and change direction as needed. Students will receive prepared reading lists, guidance in research, weekly meetings to discuss materials, research approaches, writing, and more, and access to written correspondence. Ultimately these courses will provide training in what is traditionally understood as humanities scholarship at the highest possible level.

Tutoring courses can be viewed as either supplements or replacements to institutional training. Much has been said about the lowering standards of humanities education, especially at the undergraduate level. Courses can be catered to specialists and beginners alike. My aim is to provide the skillset necessary for a critical engagement with the world we have inherited. Private tutoring also allows me an outlet to do one of the things I love most, which is engage with thought and the world through text and person to person interaction.

Curated Experiences in Philosophy

For those who wish to have an experience in philosophy but do not wish to take the scholarly approach, I also offer a curated philosophical experience. This might be thought of as a sort of philosophical counseling. Offerings are similar to tutoring insofar as I will produce reading lists and suggestions and prepare meetings to discuss the materials in relation to the client’s question. One might approach this as an exercise to stir creativity, help with a project, help guide a decision-making process, help process and understanding some life experience, etc. Each experience will be unique to the client’s needs and be approached from my end with the rigor of a scholar.

Human culture – our art, our literature, our philosophy – is rife with questions that mirror ours. One need only know where to look and how to use it!
